Education & Resources for Improving Childhood Continence (ERIC)	ERIC is the national charity that offers information and support to children, teenagers, families and health and social care professionals on childhood bedwetting, daytime wetting, soiling and constipation and potty training. Makaton	Makaton is a language programme for children and adults with communication and learning difficulties, enabling them to interact with others. Senmove	Senmove is a UK organisation providing professional development courses for those working within the Special Educational Needs sector. Short Breaks Network, The	The Short Breaks Network promotes good practice in short breaks for disabled children and young people. We aim to increase quality and diversity in short breaks provision UK wide. City and Guild	City and Guild offers a range of vocational courses including Childcare and Education NVQs to Level 2 and 3. The courses compete with CACHE courses and are similar in content. The NVQ (National Vocational Qualification)	The NVQ (National Vocational Qualification) is a government initiative to give people with experience but no formal qualification the opportunity to get a recognised qualification. This is not an academic qualification but based on practical experience in the work place. NVQ's are assessed within the workplace where students have to prove that they have achieved a certain level of competence and capability. Confused by all the different qualifications? Below is a list of the most common qualifications childcare workers may have:

The BTEC First Certificate	A day release course equivalent to 4 GCSE's, grades A-C.

BTEC National Certificate Childhood Studies (Nursery Nursing)	A part-time course which is equivalent to two A-levels, NVQ level 3, Advanced GNVQ, or relevant work experience.

BTEC Higher National Certificate Childhood Studies (Nursery Nursing)	The HNC is often studied part-time alongside full-time employment. A Higher National student will develop management and other higher level technical skills required by employers.

BTEC Higher National Diploma (HND) Childhood Studies (Nursery Nursing).	A full time course that is the equivalent of the first year of a degree. No formal entry requirement but if you have BTEC Higher National Certificate Childhood Studies or The BTEC First Certificate you would be at the right academic level.

BTEC National Diploma Childhood Studies (Nursery Nursing).	A full time course that is the equivalent of the first year of a degree. No formal entry requirement but if you have BTEC National Certificate Childhood Studies, BTEC Higher National Certificate Childhood Studies or The BTEC First Certificate you would be at the right academic level.

CACHE Foundation Award in Caring for Children (CFCC)	A taster course giving an introduction to the type of knowledge and understanding required when working in childcare.

CACHE Level 2, Certificate in Childcare and Education (CCE)	A one-year full-time or two-year part-time course for students wanting to be child care assistants. Having gained the Certificate, you may progress to other qualifications such CACHE Diploma in Child Care and Education or, once working, to the Level 3, NVQ in Early Years Care and Education which offers assessment in the workplace.

CACHE Level 3, Diploma in Child Care and Education (DCE) (Previously known as NNEB)	This is a two-year full-time or three-year part-time course and is equivalent to two A-levels. It is a level 3 award.

CACHE Level 3 Certificate in Childminding Practice (CCP)	Develops the knowledge and skills for those who are or are looking to become a registered childminder. Developed with the National Childminding Association (NCMA)

NVQ in Childcare and Education - level 2	This is a qualification obtained by a childcare worker in a supervised role, e.g. a nursery assistant, playgroup worker a childminder, or an experienced but untrained nanny (i.e. a mother's help who went on to be a nanny.

NVQ in Childcare and Education - level 3	This can be obtained by professional childcare workers and could be considered the equivalent of an NNEB. A childcarer undertaking this training shows a commitment to learning about high quality childcare.


EarlyBird	EarlyBird is for parents whose child has received a diagnosis of an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and is of pre-school age (not yet of statutory school age). The programme aims to support parents in the period between diagnosis and school placement, empowering and helping them facilitate their child's social communication and appropriate behaviour in their natural environment. It also helps parents to establish good practice in handling their child at an early age, so as to pre-empt the development of inappropriate behaviours.	www.autism.org.uk/earlybird

National Parent Partnership Network	The National Parent Partnership Network is the national organisation for Parent Partnerships, statutory organisations that support parents and carers of children with special educational needs.	www.parentpartnership.org.uk

SkillShare	SkillShare provides training and information events for parents and carers of children with special educational needs. The project consults with local communities and existing voluntary groups about the events they would like. We can then set up the training and information events needed in accessible locations throughout Staffordshire.	Skillshare
