| A' has been receiving
intense rehabilitation care and has made and continues to make great progress.
'A' is and always will be wheelchair dependent. He has limited use of one hand
and currently communicates through a letter board, (the team involved at the moment
are working towards 'A' using his computer for communicating instead of the letter
board). This is a slow but positive direction for 'A' to be moving in. There is
a lot of on going support for every one involved in 'A's' rehabilitation. Within
the next year, 'A' will be settling into his own home in Brighton, with around
the clock specialist support workers/facilitators. The person needs to be aware
that this role is very 'hands-on'... washing/showering, dressing, changing, (
'A' is now continent, apart from the occasional accidents - but is still unable
to assist with any of his personal hygiene)...teeth cleaning, shaving, eating
& drinking etc. The role would also involve a complex but very necessary programme
of applying splints on all 4 limbs - to aid with his standing & transferring
practice, however be assured as there are always 2 carers with 'A' for any procedure/aspect
of this care. The ultimate aim is to help re-integrate 'A' back into his community.
With the right people on board with the right attitude and aptitude for this type
of work, his family are positive that he will be able to reach his full potential
and live an independent life as is possible. |
